Here is one of the stories of the sweet-talking Mrs. Moneva: “Until 1954, the Danube froze with the ice one and a half meters thick and people calmly crossed from one bank to the other, even playing … hockey. Because the water was clean and froze easily. In winter, musicians, the so-called laudars, would come on the ice from the opposite Romanian bank and here, in the fishermen’s quarter, it became very cheerful and lively. Our men returned from seasonal fishing and so the cold months were spent knitting nets, repairing boats, wine barrels, and listening to the music of Romanian laudars.”

Even today, at the beginning and end of the street, you will find fish markets. Near one of them, under the church, is the “Lodkostroitel” factory – the modern equivalent of the old Tutrakan master boatmen – a long-standing manufacturer of vessels and technical products made of fiberglass.

Next to the other fish market – on the eastern end – is the boat dock. From there, usually after sunset, today’s fishermen – usually hereditary fishermen in the city – set off to catch fish. They return early in the morning to stock the fish markets.

Mobile phone Anka Moneva – 00359 897580732

https://www.museumtutrakan.com/?cid=10

https://www.museumtutrakan.com/?cid=14

You can still see authentic fishermen’s houses that time and human negligence have not managed to take away from us.

[50,42,36,31
