The “Neptune’s Evening” festival is associated with the Danube River and is organized on the banks of the river. It is part of the “Danube Day” campaign, which is associated with the celebration of the International Danube Day, aiming to draw public attention to the importance of the river for the regions and the sustainable use of its waters.
The celebration includes a musical program and a ritual for the emergence of Neptune and his retinue from the waters of the Danube River. Neptune is greeted by the village mayor, who hands him the key and the right to rule the village wisely and fairly for the next 24 hours. Neptune baptizes those who wish to join the underwater kingdom, giving them fish names and baptismal certificates.
