Spring cyclamen ( Cyclamen coum Mill .) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Primrose family . It is also known by the names spring cyclamen or eastern cyclamen. It has large, kidney-shaped leaves and pink to cyclamen-like flowers. In our country it blooms early in the spring, often in mid-February to April. A rare species for Bulgaria, included in the Red Book of Bulgaria. In the locality near Brenitsa, the delicate cyclamen grows in communities with bluebells, crocuses and snowdrops.
The provisions of the Biological Diversity Act concern not only the spring cyclamen, but also the early-flowering spring flowers. It categorically prohibits the picking, uprooting, possession, trade and offering for sale of specimens taken from nature. It is interesting that in Bulgaria the species is distributed in Strandzha, Eastern Stara Planina and along the Black Sea coast. In northern Bulgaria the localities are in Brenitsa and around the village of Osenets, Razgrad region.
